"Pangolin’s Ark began when I was making a willow sculpture in a park due to lack of studio space. The interest it received and the conversation it created with adults, as well as children, was really exciting and also reminded me how much I love stumbling upon artistic tit bits in unexpected places".
The organisation developed when we decided that not enough was being done to tackle the issues surrounding waste and sustainability in the creative sector. It is London’s third largest industry but there is little to inspire the masses of creative people to think about these issues within their practice. Pangolin’s Ark is interested in how waste materials and goods from events, theatres and galleries can be redistributed to people who need them – most often this is community groups and schools.
In order for Pangolin’s Ark to really make a difference to the individuals within the industry, and to the local communities who are all ultimately affected in one way or another, we spend our time actually learning about sustainable practice. And because we believe that a creative approach is the most successful way of engaging people we demonstrate what we have learnt in a fun and accessible way by means of assisting artists, musicians, performers, and makers and facilitating workshops and conversations with local communities.

On August 1 we are curating Art & Seek – our first independent event for 2010! This unique event will have all the energy of a local festival but with a focus on the local environment and our local communities. The day will be packed with art, music, stalls, talks and workshops – all hidden throughout Clissold and Abney Park. Use the map (come back later to find out how you can get your hands on one), follow the clues and discover art in your very own public space. Why not come along and join us for a day of creative and sustainable fun...
